Welcome to Maple and Mirth.

At Maple and Mirth we love wholesome food prepared from scratch, a well designed and livable home that echos the very best of who you are and what you love. We love to travel and experience new cultures and ways of doing things. We do it all surrounded by kids and husbands and friends. We are at our best when we live life together.

Follow along as we share what we know about food, design, travel, and living in community with lots of kids. You will see our mess because we believe in real, unfiltered life. Tara will share her recipes. They are tried and true — weekly meals she prepares for her family. They are as simple as they are delicious, always organic and used with as little sugar as she can get away with. Meghan will share design tips. With two decades of styling experience and a drive to create daily, Meghan loves a good estate sale find and items collected in nature. Together, as mothers and friends, we invite you to our table. Stay awhile!

Carrot Lentil Soup ..

After the rich foods of the holiday season, I always look forward to re-centering my eating (and my family’s eating) in January. It’s so easy to over consume sweets and meat-heavy dishes during the holidays, meaning we’re not consuming enough of the fresh plant-based foods we need. With less going on for many during January, it makes it the perfect time to reestablish good old habits or establish good new habits.

I love this soup for a quick easy dinner or an accompaniment to a larger meal. This recipe makes enough to have leftovers for another dinner later in the week or to take as lunch for a few days, depending on your family size.

Paris for Christmas ..

It will come as to no secret that the shopping in Paris is divine, but step into one of the cities premiere shopping malls and experience a magical world all unto itself. You can get lost on the floors, among the shoes and the coats .. there are entire buildings dedicated to gourmet foods. At Christmas time, these stores outdo themselves and to visit one is a treat unlike anything else.

Galeries LaFayette, built in 1893 by two cousins and nestled within the 9th arrondissement, boasts an absolutely stunning glass, Art Nouveau Coupole, that can be seen across the city. It is the first stop on our trip to Paris, and one of Tara’s top recommendations for shopping for kid’s clothing and shoes. If you happen to be in Paris during the holiday season, you must stop into Galeries LaFayette.
